so, i decided that it'd be the hottest thing to have a party with hits from the nineties plus some african music (the latter a later addition). and i sent out an email...telling people about it..inviting them and i specifically said (LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY REQUESTS). major line. as always you only get one/two responses...
anyway, so i set the party for saturday at 9pm. my friend is in a dance show on the same day...dance show is supposed to start at 6pm...unfortunately it starts much later and (7pm) and my friend's peformance is still not done by 9pm...tsk tsk. she's been talking to me about it all semester...so i figure i call a friend up who's at the party which i am organizing and tell them to handle everything till i come because it really means a lot to my friend for me to watch this dance.
fine, i show up at the party at 10pm. there are few people there. first comment: oh, you're the host, why are you late...oh you're guests are waiting for you. well kinda rubbed the salt in the wound because i was torn earlier. (hey guess what i figure i'm sensitive). anyway, when it comes to the music, the speakers are not working so well...then there are issues about what songs people want to hear. they say they want that song and this song...and bring their ipods...oh there is no hip hop...oh there is no blah blah blah blah blah whatever!!! and apparently, someone says oh melissa i am disappointed in you. please, what the heck.
so, i figure, you just can't please everyone. i mean why come to a party, why be invited at all if you're just going to come and bench about how the party is not fitting your needs...wow that actually does sound familiar. i guess the lesson of the day is that i'll learn to keep my mouth shut in the future. i'll learn to stop complaining. anyway, another man's meat is another man's poison.
so, maybe i'm overreacting...maybe people are just plain fake. but maybe some day the real "slim shady" will stand up. okay i know this sounds corny. but for real. but for real for reaalllll. i think some of my friends in this place are just plain fake. okay now i'm really venting. but that's how i feel right now. i'm not saying it's true.
oh well, apart from all of that above, all is cool. i eventually enjoyed the party when i just stopped and talked to people...people who really wanted to talk and not point a finger about what was wrong and what was right...and i danced and danced...and yeah there were some people who did enjoy themselves...
and now that i've typed all this...my one half is like screw everyone else...but you know what? it's all good. this stuff builds character...slowly by slowly. i may have failed a bit today by getting mad...but i'm continuing to learn that, yeah, you can't place a smile on every single person's face.
as john hagee said, if you don't want to be criticized:
say nothing
do nothing
be nothing...
as long as i'm breathing i'm gonna be who i know i'm supposed to be (at least through God's help)...i may mess up sometimes...and if you can't deal with that...oh well, at least i know Someone who can.
